First Visit

Your first step towards a great smile is a complementary consultation! Patients are occasionally a little nervous about this first visit to the orthodontist, but here is no need to be. This visit is a chance for us to get to know each other while gathering the important information that is required to provide you with excellent care. Dr. Pliska will review your medical and dental history, provide a complete oral exam, and get a better idea of what you want us to achieve together. To allow Dr. Pliska to make this assessment, a series of diagnostic records may be taken which include photographs, x-rays and molds of your teeth.

During your complimentary consultation, we will explain everything that you will need to know about your orthodontic treatment, so that you can choose what's best for you – no strings attached. If orthodontic treatment is required our friendly staff will work with you to schedule the necessary follow up appointments to get you on your way to a beautiful smile.

How Orthodontic Treatment Works

Orthodontic appliances can be made of metal, ceramic, or plastic. They may be removable aligners or they may be brackets bonded to the teeth. By placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction, braces slowly move teeth to a corrected position. This is a great time to wear braces! Gone are the days when a metal band with a bracket was placed around each tooth. You can choose brackets that are clear or metallic color. For a more unique and colorful smile you can choose the color of the ties that hold the wire in brackets. Wires are also less noticeable than they used to be and the latest materials move teeth faster with less discomfort to patients.

Duration of Treatment

Treatment time typically ranges from one to three years, depending on the growth of the patient's mouth and face and the severity of the problem. Patients grow at different rates and teeth will respond differently to orthodontic treatment. The patient's diligent use of any prescribed rubber bands or headgear is an important factor in achieving the most efficient treatment. Pre-restorative or early treatment procedures may take as few as six months.
